While fiberglass hulls are becoming more and more common, they’re still a rather recent addition to the market. As a result, boat owners often don’t realize that their fiberglass models need to be cleaned and cared for differently than other boats on the market. Thankfully, learning to clean a fiberglass boat is incredibly easy, and you can quickly learn how by reading the helpful instructions below.

Cleaning Tools

Before you grab your hose and sponge, you’ll need to gather a few unique products to get your fiberglass boat looking shiny and new. Boat soap, a degreasing product, and a long-handled scrub brush are all key tools to getting your fiberglass boat clean as a whistle. However, you may also need to find a mildew cleanser, wax, and boat polish if your model hasn’t been washed in quite some time. Don’t forget to also round up a bucket and some soft towels before you get started

Cleaning The Fiberglass

Before you grab your boat soap and scrub brush, use a hose to give your fiberglass boat a thorough rinse. Do your best to remove as much dirt and debris as possible, before using your soap and brush to give your hull a deeper clean. Once the hull is clear of grime, rinse the model once again from top to bottom.

Treating The Fiberglass

If your fiberglass boat has signs of mildew, now is the time to apply your cleanser in order to remove it. However, if your hull is mildew-free, go ahead and set to work on de-greasing your model. If you’re using a scratch-free degreasing formula, you’ll need to apply this with one of your soft towels and then rub it off with another clean cloth. If you’re using a spray-on degreaser remember to rinse it off of your hull after the correct amount of time has passed. If it’s been over 6 months since you last washed your fiberglass boat, or you’re about to put your model into storage, you’ll also want to polish and wax your hull—once again using your soft towels to apply and buff the products.
